As far as rappers go, A Boogie wit da Hoodie smiles a lot. Interviews and videos give the impression that he's a pretty approachable dude. “My Shit” and “Still Think About You” from his 2016 ‘Artist’ album were feel-good trap anthems with bubbly beats. Likewise, the “Swervin” rhymer’s brand of melodic rap doesn’t rely on a high dose of toxic tropes. Such is the mantra of A Boogie’s career: he won’t put you off; he will, however, put you on the dance floor. When reflecting on the tangled rollout of his new ‘Me vs. Myself’ album - which included moving the release date to skirt Drake and 21’s ‘Her Loss’ project - he cracked a bemused grin. “I ain’t switching my date again,” he laughed. “I don’t wanna fight/I wanna take ya to Chanel/I just hope you keep it real,” he quips through the autotuned flow of this “Secrets” performance. Mr. Positivity. Everyone in our studio was grinnin’ as the last note rang out.
